Alecto the locked tomb6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() If Alecto is just an RB/construct of the 10 billion it doesn’t explain how she has a personality. But others, Possessed!Colum and the RBs we see, don’t. They think and feel and clearly have some level of an individual personality. Some, like Harrow and Teacher, have consciousness. We have multiple examples of “constructs” or what happens when multiple souls are reaped at once and shoved together. This theory doesn’t reject the AL is Earth’s RB idea. I can totally see meme loving John pulling something like that. It also works as an in-universe nickname, scientists love their cheeky self aware names (see Far-Eastern Blots, Shh gene, ChIA-PET). Muir loves her cheeky self aware names and “Al” as a nickname for an ai certainly qualifies. ![]() One thing I haven’t seen yet is that Al could be read as “a+i” as easily as “A+L” with a sans serif font. Smart ppl have already commented on the significance of Alecto/Annabell Lee/Annie Laurie/AL’s various names. ![]()

Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() I was much relieved, however, when Andrews obviated (or at least minimized) this issue with a surprisingly nuanced exploration of the cultural differences between humans and shapeshifters.Įven though Curran sometimes comes off as having boundary issues, he also possesses a preternatural talent for self-control. ![]() Toward the beginning of this book, I was concerned that Andrews was polluting Curran with the he’s-a-creepy-stalker-but-it’s-okay-because-he’s-hot dynamic that plagues plenty of romance and genre fiction. Curran is certainly a cliché, but it’s hard to complain about clichés when they are executed with such perfection. I can’t remember the last time I was so attracted to a fictional character––man or woman. Curran is the paradigmatic bad boy with a heart of gold Andrews’s descriptions of this leonine Alpha of Atlanta’s shapeshifter Pack are enough to make any beating heart pick up its pace. This time around, I was excited to learn more about Kate’s primary love interest (or love/hate interest), Curran. ![]() The story continues to grow while still delivering the hallmark elements that made the first novel so appealing. The seductive nature of this world and its characters springs from Andrews’s near-perfect balance between novelty and familiarity. After thoroughly enjoying the first two books, my delight continued right up to the final page of the third installment, Magic Strikes. Ilona Andrews’s Kate Daniels series is a gift that keeps on giving. ![]()

Tender is the flesh agustina bazterrica6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() If this were the only message the book carried, it wouldn’t be adding anything new to the popular discourse.įortunately, Tender is the Fleshoffers a broader scope than that. Therein lies the book’s first clear-cut message: to consider how modern-day battery farming, and meat and dairy production, treats non-human animals: the conditions they’re kept in the ways they are raised, tortured, abused, and ultimately killed. The humans that are bred for slaughter are not considered people, are referred to as ‘heads’, and are kept in much the same condition as cattle are today. Known as the Transition, wherein human meat production became an accepted norm Tainted, and mostly wiped out, most non-human animals, and so came a period Slaughterhouse which deals exclusively in human meat. Tender is the Fleshis a novel of this exact kind: a critique of our present and a warning against a possible future. Books are written and read for an infinite number of reasons, and with the case of dystopian literature it is often written as a warning of things to come, or things that are already stirring – a chance for readers to become woke to the social and political shifts of the present and the future. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a work of literature does not have to be enjoyable to be considered good. ![]()

Jean paul sartre's nausea6/28/2023 ![]() ![]() He begins to contemplate people, their actions, lifestyles doesn’t see meaning in doing whatever it is. And he keeps repeating “I think therefore I exist” in his mind numerous times and at the end, says, “I think therefore I am moustache” and loses it! He begins to question everything since he picks up a rock to skip it in a river begins to question the essence of stone, and since then, he asks the nature of everything. He keeps reminding himself that he exists. There is a page where Antoine explains how he felt anxious when he thought about his existence. His name is Antoine Roquentin, and his dairy explains all his thoughts and feelings about everything. We are reading his journal, the pages left from his diary. ![]() ![]() He begins to explain everything to us in a detailed manner. The character hits an existential crisis and begins to observe everything around him keenly. The way Jean-Paul Satre wrote the book, he takes time to explain everything around the character. It is not that I didn’t want to open the book there was never a moment that I didn’t think about it.Įverything I look reminds of “nausea”. But then, I didn’t dare touch it for two months. When I began this book, I read 85 pages in a single go. No matter how short this book is, don’t fall for the less number of pages, it is a lot of content that exhausts an average mind. I have been reading this book, nausea, for quite a long time. ![]()

Peter spiers christmas6/28/2023 ![]() Mooseltoe, heart-warms me every time! It’s the story of an over organized Dad who has check lists galore to summon up the most perfect Christmas for his family. The grand words and humble drawings together evoke a delight and joy that this wonderful story deserves. The text of the story is taken straight away from the King James Biblical narrative. I adore the friendly drawing of the angel seated at a table with Mary– a sort of homespun annunciation. Julie Vivas’ illustrations make this telling of the Christmas story magical– the booted angels, the very pregnant Mary, the joy of the shepherds as they peer into the manger. ![]() I trundle them off to school for a Christmas story each morning– and my very favorites end up back on our coffee table to open up at home. ![]() Hello all– The week after Thanksgiving, I climb up on a chair to reach the large pile of Christmas books that have been stored away on the top shelf of our bookcase since last year. ![]()
